A livestock transporter ran into oncoming traffic on the B 2 near Traubing on Monday afternoon.

The truck driver hit several oncoming cars.

Ten people were injured in the collision.

The approximately 20 calves on the transporter remained uninjured.

Traubing

– The B 2 near Traubing was impassable for several hours on Monday afternoon.

Cars with shattered front ends were parked across the road or hanging in the guardrail, and parts were scattered all over the road for 150 meters.

Because: At around 2 p.m. a real collision occurred, caused by a livestock transporter with around 20 calves that, for reasons that are still unclear, got into the oncoming lane.

According to the police, ten people were injured (the fire department says nine), but fortunately no one was life-threatening.

The police describe the accident as follows: The truck driver, who was driving from Weilheim towards Starnberg, crossed into the opposite lane shortly after the underpass near Traubing for reasons that are still unknown.

One car was able to get out of the way, the second vehicle, a Mini, collided with the driver's side of the truck and was pushed against the guardrail.

The following driver of an Audi A 1 recognized the situation and wanted to avoid the oncoming lane, but had no chance and was hit on the right rear by the truck.

The Ford driving behind the woman collided head-on with the truck that was “still traveling at high speed.”

The following VW driver was able to stop in time, but the truck hit him too.

The result: The car spun and was thrown onto a 1 Series BMW behind it.

Two rescue helicopters in action

“The accident site resembled a field of rubble,” the police wrote.

Two of the injured were flown to clinics in helicopters from Murnau and Munich.

The truck driver was lucky and was only slightly injured.

All damaged vehicles had to be recovered by towing companies.

The amount of material damage cannot yet be quantified, said Starnberg officials on Monday afternoon.

The B2 was completely closed for hours and traffic was diverted via Traubing.

The emergency services were busy cleaning up at the scene of the accident until late afternoon.

A total of around 35 firefighters from Traubing and Tutzing were on duty.

There were also six ambulances, three emergency ambulances, the two rescue helicopters in question and several police patrols.

At the time of going to press, officials were unable to provide any information as to why the livestock truck had crossed into oncoming traffic.

Just like the personal details of those involved in the accident.

The Starnberg inspection asks for information on (0 81 51) 36 40.

District fire inspector Maximilian Wastian reports from the scene: “It was a challenge for us to get an overview of the situation.

Who is helper?

And who needs help?” This wasn’t so easy because residents from the area also rushed over with blankets in their arms.

Calves remain unharmed

Dr.

Franz Matheis, commander of the Traubing Volunteer Fire Department, was exactly the right man at the scene of the accident.

Because he is a veterinarian.

“I immediately took a look at the calves,” he reported.

“They were shaken a little bit, but not injured.

There was no need for action.” The approximately 20 calves were finally loaded onto two other transporters that were called.

The livestock transporter was ultimately no longer drivable.

The 20 calves remained uninjured and were picked up by two other transporters.

The B 2 near Traubing is not a designated accident hotspot - there hasn't been one in the district for years - but serious accidents are not uncommon there.

The section towards Weilheim south of Traubing in particular is a problematic route in winter because it is the highest point in the circle and therefore tends to be slippery or snowy.
