Everything in Silvia K.'s life was perfectly organized.

But then, almost simultaneously, everything that had given her stability collapsed.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen – living situation, family life, partnership, job, finances – suddenly nothing was the same anymore.

Today Silvia K. is trying to regain control of her life and build something new for herself.

She is confident that with a little help she will succeed.

“For me, learning is living”: Silvia K. moved from northern Germany to the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district

“For me, learning is living”: This is how Silvia K. describes her attitude to life.

That's why the academic continued her education, trained as a veterinary practitioner, worked in the social sector with children and young people, gave application training and more.

She was always one to support others.

This should turn into the opposite.

Silvia K. moved to the district a few years ago because of love.

She says she was socially “well integrated” in her hometown in northern Germany.

“I had a lot of contacts.” In Bavaria, however, she found it rather difficult to build relationships - which she would have needed to get her own practice going here.

Corona soon made it even more difficult to get to know people.

Things didn't go any better for Silvia K's daughter, who, as her mother says, “didn't have a chance to meet other young people” because of the contact restrictions.

“I collapsed”: Daughter leaves Silvia K.

Everything soon collapsed like a house of cards.

She had a job as an accountant in a mechanical engineering company.

The company got into trouble during the Corona crisis, introduced short-time work and was ultimately sold.

And Silvia K. had big problems with the new bosses.

At the same time, her partner became seriously ill.

This also meant that the self-employed lost their income.

On top of that, Silvia K's daughter, now almost 18, decided to leave Bavaria and move to Northern Germany to live with her father.

Being separated from her was “hardly bearable” for Silvia K., she says.

“I collapsed.”

Everything came at once, it was just too much.

As if all that wasn't enough, she and her partner also received a notice of termination for their own use from the landlord.

“Everything came at once, it was just too much.” According to Silvia K’s description, the couple, who were already mentally weak, had “no strength” to defend themselves against the termination.

Not even to get something new in the competitive rental market - especially since Silvia K's partner now needed a barrier-free home.

Under all these strains, the relationship ultimately collapsed.

“I was overwhelmed, it was all far too much, and I had to pull the emergency brake,” says Silvia K. If you’re not stable yourself, you’re also not in a position to support someone else.

A caravan served as her home for a time.

“It was freezing cold in the winter,” she says.

Silvia K. packed all of her belongings into a construction trailer, which she still has in a barn in northern Germany to this day.

“I travel light,” she explains with a smile.

Silvia K. hopes to regain ground in her career – and find an apartment

Silvia K. sought help from a therapist - but according to her own description, she was extremely unlucky.

The therapy approach was completely counterproductive for her.

Mentally, she fell deeper and deeper into a downward spiral.

She was no longer able to work and ended up spending four months in a psychosomatic clinic.

“What was really bad for me was that I could no longer rely on my own head and that I completely lost control.”

She received a lot of support in the clinic.

But she still didn't feel able to work afterwards.

The housing situation is also still precarious.

For now, Silvia K. has no choice but to sleep on the sofa with her ex-partner.

When she sleeps.

“I still often lie awake all night.”

The new year is supposed to change a lot.

Silvia K. is training to become a trauma therapist.

After graduating, she hopes to gain ground again in her career.

And finding a new apartment.

“I hope that I can regain my strength, sleep well and master my life.”
