In order to compensate for the different tax power of the districts, cities and municipalities, the Free State issues so-called key allocations.

This year they will be somewhat lower overall for the 34 district municipalities, and the district itself will receive more money.

District - A total of 44.4 million euros will flow into the Weilheim-Schongau district in 2024 via the Free State's municipal financial equalization.

The heavily indebted district itself will receive 23.36 million euros this year, which is around 2.29 million euros more than last year.

Treasurer Norbert Merk can certainly put the additional income to good use given the increased demands on the district, for example when it comes to accommodating refugees.

The cities, market towns and municipalities in the district, on the other hand, have to make do with a total of 440,000 euros less; they still have to make do with 21.09 million euros.

But since an unusually large number of ten district municipalities are left empty-handed this year, the pot for the remaining 24 has definitely become larger.

The market towns of Peißenberg and Peiting are again among the largest recipients

The two recipients that have been the largest in relation to the number of inhabitants for decades, Peißenberg and Peiting, are also looking forward to a significant increase in 2024, Peißenberg an increase of 290,000 euros to 5.11 million, Peißing to 2.22 million euros, over 827,000 euros more than in 2023. The day of the Annunciation is an important one for the treasurers of the two market towns: because the compensation payments for the comparatively low tax capacity of their municipality are an important item in their budget planning.

The allocations are not subject to any conditions and can be used freely by the municipalities.

Left empty-handed this year are Altenstadt, Eglfing, Habach, Iffeldorf, Pähl, Penzberg, Raisting, Schongau, Seeshaupt and Wessobrunn.

In 2023, Altenstadt and Wessobrunn had still received key allocations.

The day of the announcement is always a day of political ritual: politicians from the governing party(s) praise each other for the good deed, while representatives of the municipalities and districts as well as the opposition parties criticize that the amount is far too small.

The key allocations in the Free State this year total 11.38 billion euros.

They are intended to help equalize the financial strength of the municipalities.
