The Erding district is taking part in Green Week for the tenth time to boost tourism.

Berlin/Erding – When Bavaria comes to Berlin, there is less laptop and more lederhosen.

The Bayernhalle at the International Green Week (IGW) in Berlin is one of the magnets of the largest agricultural and food trade fair in the world.

At the IGW, Erding is located somewhere between Allgäu, Pfaffenhofen, Chiemgau and Nuremberg-Land - definitely right in the middle in the white and blue decorated exhibition hall 22 under the radio tower.

Next to it is the stand “100 places of enjoyment in Bavaria”.

Erding should be the 101st.

The district has been represented at the IGW for the tenth time since 2013.

“I think this is a very important event to promote tourism in Erdinger Land, but also regionality,” explains District Administrator Martin Bayerstorfer.

The brand “echt erding” was presented to the public here for the first time in 2020, and the logo is now emblazoned several times on the trade fair stand made of untreated wood.

The country women (from left) Elisabeth Mayr, Burgi Lohmeier, Brigitte Frank, Helene Lohmeier and Gabi Thalmaier served baked lard at the Erding stand.

Bayerstorfer knows that the district has to save money, but he defends his trade fair appearance.

“Tourism is a very important economic factor from which many other sectors benefit.

It would be wrong to save money here of all places.”

After the Corona crisis, tourism is actually on the rise again.

Last year, the number of overnight stays broke the million mark again - 1.18 million, 14.1 percent more than in 2022. Almost 730,000 guests arrived, an increase of 18.8 percent.

There are at least 89 accommodations in the district - from farm holidays to luxury hotels.

Almost 7,400 guest beds are available, primarily for spa guests and trade fair visitors as well as air travelers.

The heaviest thing that Erding can sell in Berlin is the Weißbräu, it foams constantly from the tap, the 0.3 liter glass costs three euros, the same as the wardrobe.

Also taking part again are the Pointner noble brandies, the holiday on the farm working group, the country women and, for the first time, the Klein and Kraus beekeeping company from Eichenried.

The country women provide the nutritious basis for consuming the liquid on the island of the (beer) blessed with its own mini beer garden.

To do this, they have to carry a lot of work to the capital: Schuxn and Hauberlinge are baked in hot fat from 15 kilos of butter, 100 kilos of flour, 20 kilos of sugar, 75 liters of milk and 500 yeast cubes, as trade fair organizer Carmen Mittermeier reveals.

The Isen brass band and the Holzland brass band also have heavy baggage, receiving lots of applause for their performance on the stage in the Bayernhalle.

This also goes to the traditional costumers from the Inn-Salzach area in Gauverband 1, among whom there are some people from Wasentegernbach and Gibensbach.

They dance and sing to the sounds of the Ernst family music from Schwindkirchen.

200 citizens took part in the Berlin trip this year, more than ever before.

Also at the stand: Bavaria's Minister of Agriculture Michaela Kaniber, who is being served a glass of Pikantus.

Her cabinet colleague Hubert Aiwanger, on the other hand, walks briskly past the Erding stand.

He probably has fond memories of the region since his brilliant appearance at the heating demo in June 2023.

Green Week runs until next Sunday, January 28th.

The expected several 100,000 visitors may not be primarily interested in the Erdinger regional brand.

Bayerstorfer doesn't dispute that.

“Regionalism is absolutely important, no matter where.

And we Erdingers show how it can work.”
