This Sunday, American voters received calls imitating the president's voice, calling on them to “not vote” in the primaries

Curious phone calls in the middle of the election period.

New Hampshire authorities announced Monday that they were investigating rigged calls imitating Joe Biden's voice and “encouraging voters not to vote” during the presidential primaries scheduled for Tuesday in this northeastern US state.

The New Hampshire Attorney General's office explains in a press release that it received complaints about this call made to voters on Sunday and which states "your vote will make the difference in November, not Tuesday."

“Although the voice in the robocall sounds like President Biden's voice, the message appears to have been artificially produced based on preliminary information,” the statement said.

The call is, in all likelihood, aimed at preventing Joe Biden voters from turning out to vote in the Democratic primaries in New Hampshire.

Attempts at “illegal” disruption

Citing potential “illegal attempts to disrupt” primaries in the state, the attorney general’s office points out that “voting in New Hampshire’s presidential primaries does not prevent you from voting in the November presidential election.”

Joe Biden should, barring any surprises, be nominated as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate.

However, two candidates are opposed to the current president, the elected Democrat Dean Phillips and the writer Marianne Williamson, author of books on personal development.

Due to a disagreement with the local branch of the Democratic Party over the electoral calendar, Joe Biden will not appear on the ballot on Tuesday.

But voters will still be able to write their name on the appropriate form in order to cast their vote for the octogenarian.

Lessons from his victory in the Republican primary in Iowa

The director of Joe Biden's campaign team, Julie Chavez Rodriguez, denounced the rigged calls, saying she did not accept "the spread of disinformation in order to muzzle the vote and intentionally undermine free and fair elections."

After Donald Trump's victory in Iowa, Republican voters will also vote on Tuesday in New Hampshire to nominate their candidate for the White House.

The former president is the big favorite for the nomination, especially after the abandonment on Sunday of his former main rival, Ron DeSantis.
