While the GDL is on strike against Deutsche Bahn, the BRB in the Oberland is likely to be largely on schedule.

As a Transdev company, it will not be on strike.

District - Regional train traffic in the Miesbach district should actually not be affected by the strike by the German Locomotive Drivers' Union (GDL) from Wednesday morning.

This is the assumption of the Bavarian Regiobahn (BRB), which runs its trains between Munich and the Oberland.

The union's strike call does not apply to companies in the Transdev group, which also includes the BRB.

BRB parent group conducts its own collective bargaining with GDL

Transdev is in its own collective bargaining negotiations with the GDL and presented its own offer last week, which is actually being discussed.

The last strike therefore ended six hours earlier than at Deutsche Bahn.

The BRB in the region was hardly affected anyway, as only a few of its employees are organized in the GDL.

Most belong to the Railway and Transport Union (EVG), explains a spokeswoman when asked.

However, train cancellations can occur if dispatchers who are employed by Deutsche Bahn as the infrastructure owner go on strike.

Recently, however, this has only been the case in isolated cases.

GDL conclusion has a signaling effect for the next round of EVG collective bargaining

Meanwhile, the dispute is relevant for S-Bahn customers.

The railway announced yesterday that it would develop an emergency plan that would provide for an hourly service on all lines.

There are no strikes on the subway, tram and buses in Munich.

However, a collective bargaining agreement that the GDL reaches with the railway will not have any impact at all for the BRB either.

It has a signal effect for the EVG's next collective bargaining negotiations with the transport companies.

The differences must not be too great, otherwise the union with the weaker agreement will lose members.

BRB offers optional models: 39, 38 or 37 hours of weekly working time

As can be seen from a current job advertisement for a railcar driver as a career changer, the following conditions apply at the BRB after the eight-month training: Depending on the model chosen, the basic salary is 3257 to 3436 euros gross plus allowances (250 to 350 €/net), with a weekly working time of 39 , 38 or 37 hours per week and a minimum of 26 and a maximum of 38 days of vacation.

There are also “numerous company agreements with regulated special payments” as well as employee discounts and special benefits.

The BRB attracts already trained railcar drivers with a salary of up to 4,003 euros or up to 43 days of vacation.

For the routes in the Oberland, interested transport companies also have to factor in the higher wages when applying for rail operations from December 2026.

As reported, the tender for the routes to Bayrischzell, Tegernsee and Lenggries is currently underway.
