According to current polls, he is well ahead of his rival Nikki Haley.

Update from January 22nd, 11:55 a.m.:

The election campaign is over.

Ron DeSantis is no longer seeking the Republican nomination for the 2024 US election. The Florida governor's campaign garnished the news of his withdrawal with an alleged quote from former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to keep going that counts,” DeSantis wrote on Twitter above the video in which he announced his resignation.

It's just a shame that Churchill apparently never said these words.

At least that’s what the “International Churchill Society” makes clear on its website.

first reported about it

.

The company is absolutely sure that it is not a quote from Churchill.

It is quite possible that DeSantis meant another quote from the legendary statesman: “Success requires ever greater effort.”

It is now time “for all Republicans to rally behind President Trump” to defeat incumbent Joe Biden in the November presidential election and end his “disastrous presidency,” Trump’s campaign team said.

The ex-president himself attacked his rival Haley as a “globalist” during a campaign appearance in New Hampshire.

Voters will have to decide whether they want “more of the same or something new,” the former UN ambassador added.

The former governor of the state of South Carolina is hoping for the votes of all those conservative voters who have had enough of Trump.

US election campaign: Trump competitor DeSantis gives up

Washington DC – Republican and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis dropped out of the race for the US presidency on Sunday evening.

After the recent primary election in the US state of Iowa, he no longer sees a “clear path to victory” and is therefore withdrawing his presidential candidacy.

US election campaign: DeSantis drops out of presidential race and supports Trump

DeSantis further stated that he wanted to support former President Donald Trump as the election campaign continued.

The majority of Republican voters in the primaries want to give them another chance, said the 45-year-old.

DeSantis added that he had "some differences of opinion" with Trump, for example with regard to the corona pandemic, but the ex-president is "better than the current incumbent Joe Biden."

After Trump's success in Iowa - DeSantis quits

Trump confirmed his favorite status for his party's presidential nomination on Monday with a clear victory in the first Republican primary in Iowa.

He won 51 percent of the vote, well ahead of DeSantis, who came in second with 21 percent.

He was followed by former US Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, who received 19 percent of the vote.

The next primary election will take place on Tuesday in the state of New Hampshire.

The winner of the nationwide Republican primary will then challenge incumbent Biden of the Democratic Party in the presidential election on November 5th.
