Highlights: In 2023, 187,000 tonnes of end-of-life tires collected. Over 65,800 collections were carried out at over 23 thousand tire dealers throughout the country. Rubber obtained from the recycling of ELTs is used throughout the world to create sports surfaces, football pitches, silent, safe and long-lasting asphalt, acoustic insulation, urban furnishings or for energy recovery. Every year the recycling activity managed by Ecopneus brings both environmental and economic benefits to Italy: in 2022 there was a saving of 127 million euros and a reduction of 300,000 tons of CO2 emissions.

In 2023, over 187,000 tonnes of end-of-life tires (ELTs) were recovered from the system managed by Ecopneus, which thus exceeded its legal target by 12%.

Over 65,800 collections were carried out at over 23 thousand tire dealers throughout the country.

In announcing this with a press release, the consortium company Ecopneus explains that "this result has made it possible to achieve the extraordinary objectives set by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security to address the difficulties of the national collection system".

"The use of ELTs as an energy resource, the research into new applications in the asphalt sector and the exploration of the possibilities offered by chemical recycling, such as pyrolysis, are the challenges that stimulate us to excel" explains Alessandro DeMartino, president of Ecopneus.

The rubber obtained from the recycling of ELTs, explains the consortium company, "is a precious material widely used throughout the world to create sports surfaces, football pitches, silent, safe and long-lasting asphalt, acoustic insulation, urban furnishings or for energy recovery" .

To date, the recycled rubber market is constantly growing, and Ecopneus is dedicating itself to new lines and application sectors through constant Research and Development work.

Every year the recycling activity managed by Ecopneus brings both environmental and economic benefits to Italy: in 2022 there was a saving of 127 million euros and a reduction of 300,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions, as well as a saving of 1. 5 million cubic meters of water and 336,000 tons of raw materials.

The circular economy of ELTs also generated 59.8 million euros, with 51.7 million allocated to the services of companies in the supply chain.
