The city of Moosburg has commissioned a student forecast up to the year 2035.

The results now make it clear: the city has enormous tasks ahead of it.

Moosburg

- Heike Pethe from the Office for Spatial Development analyzed population development and calculated the effects on schools.

She expects Moosburg's population to increase from around 20,700 residents in 2022 to 24,850 people in 2035. This corresponds to growth of around 20 percent.

The calculation already includes fixed planned residential areas and rather moderate growth from 2026.

“We already have the problem”

The result: “The number of children will increase more significantly than that of adults,” warned Pethe, specifically looking at the school-age age group.

The 2035 forecast predicts that the number of children between the ages of six and nine will increase by 303 (plus 37 percent) and by 455 (plus 48 percent) among children aged 10 to 14.

Pethe based the assumption on the fact that families in particular move to Moosburg in order to get more living space with the move.

The Anton Vitzthum elementary school in the south of the city has the smallest problem in the calculation model.

The number of students is expected to increase from the current 491 to 619 by 2035.

The school, which is currently getting an extension for the all-day school, currently has 20 classrooms, which should be enough for a while.

22 classrooms will be needed in 2030 and then 24 in 2035. That was the somewhat good news.

The picture is completely different at the Theresia Gerhardinger primary school in the north, which is also responsible for the neighboring community of Wang in the school district.

The expert expects an increase from the current 337 children to 600 in 2035 - almost doubling.

The sound barrier of 600 students is expected to be reached as early as 2030, and the 500 is expected to be reached in 2027. With currently 13 classrooms, things are already tight.

For the two years 2030 and 2035, 24 classrooms will probably be needed.

“We have the problem now,” said Rector Gudrun Rothe, commenting on the numbers.

“We will probably have 600 students in three years.”

“This is one of the biggest things in Bavaria”

The middle school, which could grow from 520 young people to 717 by 2035, was also taken into account.

The current 28 classrooms will then have to be expanded to 40.

By 2025, 33 classrooms will be needed, which illustrates the urgent need for action.

“600 students at a primary school – that is one of the largest in Bavaria,” said state parliament member Johannes Becher (Greens).

“And we then have two of the largest primary schools in Bavaria.” The buildings could be built, but the question arises, “whether it will work in such large schools?”

Mayor Josef Dollinger (FW) agreed with Becher that there were enough children for a third primary school.

“But we haven’t had any success in the past in getting land for the third location.” And now the city has “a certain amount of time pressure” to create the space quickly.

School officer Martin Pschorr (SPD) noted critically that “we keep designating new building areas without adapting the schools.

When it comes to the development plan, we are discussing bicycle racks instead of schools.”
