First report

: New York – Sergei Lavrov's last flight lasted twelve hours and 45 minutes.

: The plane with Russia's foreign minister on board took the "northern route" in order to avoid flying over "unfriendly states".

Tass

describes

that numerous countries have closed their airspace to Russian aircraft since the Ukraine war.

In any case, Lavrov is now in New York City - because of the meeting of the UN Security Council starting Monday (January 22).

According to information from Moscow, he also wants to discuss the situation in the Ukraine war during the talks, especially the recent attack in the Russian-occupied Donetsk region.

Lavrov's ministry condemned the attack as a "barbaric act of terrorism."

In recent months, the governments in Kiev and Moscow have often blamed each other for attacks on civilians.

His ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova had announced that Lavrov wanted to take part not only in the debates on Ukraine, but also in those on the Middle East conflict.

It should be about “ways out of the comprehensive crisis” caused by the war in Israel and Gaza.

By “legitimate security interest” Russia understands its demand for disarmament in Ukraine and for a neutral status for the country.

Russia has been waging war against Ukraine for almost two years and has declared conquered areas its territory.

From Moscow's perspective, a return is out of the question.

Ukraine is trying to retake its territory.

With a few exceptions, the international community does not recognize the Russian annexations of 2022 or the annexation of the Crimean peninsula in 2014.

The UN Security Council meets until January 24th.
