For the first time, people from Düsseldorf appear in front of the “Hartz and cordial” camera.

Sven is also there, the 40-year-old is homeless and has been living in a friend's basement - but that's over now!

RTLZWEI is finally broadcasting the popular social documentary “Hartz und Herzen” from Düsseldorf.

In the Garath, Reisholz and Holthausen districts, the reality of life is different than on the exclusive Königsallee.

The participants are plagued by existential worries, from homelessness to drug addiction - everyone has their own burden to bear.

But the cohesion of the residents allows them to overcome almost all problems.

New “Hartz und cordial” episodes on RTLZWEI – Homeless man sleeps in basement shed

With new “Hartz and warm” episodes from Düsseldorf, viewers also get to know new faces.

Sven lives in the Holthausen district – at least most of the time.

He used to change apartments regularly, but never paid off his rent debts.

This behavior took its toll: he has been homeless for over eight years - there is no new accommodation in sight.

A fate that also threatens Franzi's family of 10 in Magdeburg.

The 40-year-old no longer has an apartment and therefore has to keep looking for where he can sleep.

Potential landlords only turn him down, which is why Sven relies on the community and outside help.

He has no support from his family.

An acquaintance gave him his basement shack as an improvised place to sleep - a pitiful sight: he is sitting on an old mattress in the garbage-filled basement compartment.

Hartz IV is not enough for “Hartz and cordial” participants – they have to collect bottles and scrounge

In “Hartz und cordial” the daily worries of the protagonists are highlighted.

Sven has problems everywhere.

Although the Hartz IV office gives him an address specifically for the homeless, that's not enough for him.

He says that in order to “earn a little on the side,” he always goes out at midnight and collects bottles.

“I also ask people, so I go scrounging,” he reports.

He can't make ends meet without begging.

Other RTLZWEI actors also experienced this, “Hartz und cordial” Celine from Rostock also had to beg for food and drink on the street.

Although Sven's accommodation in the basement is better than the street, he "really has no idea how long you can last sleeping in a basement like that, where it's cold, where it's dirty, where the rats run around."

At least acquaintances take him in to shower and occasionally to eat.

“Hartz and cordial” in Düsseldorf Holthausen: Homeless Sven back on the street

If it were possible, Sven would “rather move into his own apartment now than tomorrow.” But instead of getting closer to this dream, his friend Tanja has more bad news for the 40-year-old.

The community in whose basement he lives gossips about Sven's sleeping quarters.

It's no longer a secret that he lives in a local resident's shack - and that has consequences.

Tanja, who also lives in the Holthauser apartment block, explains to the homeless man: “The person who gave you the basement was afraid [...] that he would be fired.” A catastrophe for the newly minted TV actor – he's sitting on the street again.

Because a homeless shelter like the one used by Manja from Rostock is not an option for him.

He had already been beaten and robbed there.

For now, the Düsseldorfer has no choice but to sleep on the street.
