Update from January 23rd, 2:50 a.m.:

Once again, the USA and Great Britain, with the support of other allies, attacked positions of the Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Eight Iran-backed Houthi sites were attacked in a coordinated military strike on Monday (January 22), the allies said in a joint statement released by the Pentagon.

The targets of the attacks included an underground weapons depot, missile systems and Houthi launch pads.

This is the second coordinated military strike of this magnitude in just under two weeks.

On the night of January 12th, there had already been a similar military action by the USA and Great Britain with the support of allies: At that time, almost 30 Houthi positions were attacked.

Israel-Gaza-News: Israel proposes ceasefire

Update from January 22nd, 10:36 p.m.:

According to a media report, Israel is proposing a two-month ceasefire in the Gaza war that has been raging for more than 100 days.

The offer, which was made to the mediators from Egypt and Qatar, is intended to lead to the release of all hostages who are in the hands of the Islamist Hamas, the news portal

Axios

reported on Monday evening.

The author of the article, the well-known and well-connected Israeli journalist Barak Ravid, cited two unnamed Israeli government officials.

After the terrorist attack by Hamas and other extremist groups on October 7th on areas in southern Israel, the terrorists are still holding 136 people in the Gaza Strip, according to Israeli government figures.

A two-month ceasefire would be the most far-reaching offer of its kind made by the Israeli government to date.

During a week-long ceasefire at the end of November, Hamas released 105 hostages.

In return, Israel released 240 Palestinian prisoners from its prisons.

According to the provider Paltel, telecommunications services have once again failed in the embattled Gaza Strip.

All telephone and internet services have been suspended due to the “ongoing and intensifying aggression,” the West Bank-based Palestinian company wrote on Monday on the X platform, formerly Twitter.

The last and longest suspension of services to date ended last Friday and lasted eight days.

On Monday, the Israeli military expanded its offensive to the west of the city of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip.

Eyewitnesses and emergency services reported heavy fighting in densely populated areas with dozens dead.

Renewed attacks in the north: Israel's defense minister threatens Hezbollah

Update from January 22nd, 7:24 p.m.:

Israel's military and the Shiite militia Hezbollah in southern Lebanon also reported mutual shelling on Monday.

The Israeli army said fighter jets bombed a military building in Marun al-Ras in southern Lebanon where several "terrorists" were staying.

A video was published that shows the attack with a huge explosion and several subsequent explosions.

The army emphasized that the detonations were an indication that there were weapons there.

There were further attacks in the towns of Maruahin, Chihine, Taibi, Tajir Harfa as well as Kfarkila and Blida.

Israel's Defense Minister Joav Galant confirmed at a meeting in Tel Aviv with his French colleague Sébastian Lecornu that Israel would continue to fire on Hezbollah until the residents of northern Israel were again safe from attacks from the neighboring country.

Tens of thousands of Israelis have currently been transported from there to safety in other parts of the country.

Israel calls for the Hezbollah militia to withdraw from the border.

“A war in the north will be challenging for Israel, but will be devastating for Hezbollah and Lebanon,” Galant warned.

Hamas's Ministry of Health speaks of more than 100 deaths in 24 hours

Update from January 22nd, 2:45 p.m

.: The Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health in Gaza stated that at least 190 Palestinians had died as a result of Israeli attacks in the past 24 hours.

This would bring the number of people killed in the Gaza Strip to 25,295, reports the

dpa

.

Around 63,000 other people were injured.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Health also said that due to the prevailing circumstances in the Nasser Hospital area, 40 people were said to have been buried in a mass grave.

Israel also reported heavy fighting near the city of Khan Yunis.

The army suspects there is an underground tunnel system in which the leadership of the terrorist organization Hamas is located.

Relatives of hostages storm parliamentary committee in Israel

Update from January 22nd, 1:05 p.m

.: Relatives of the hostages kidnapped by Hamas are said to have stormed a meeting of the parliamentary committee in Israel, reports the

Reuters

news agency .

Some of the protesters were said to have made posters that read "They will not sit here while they die."

The protesters would demand that the government make greater efforts to free those abducted.

The terrorist organization Hamas kidnapped 253 people in the attack last year.

Around 130 hostages are said to still be held by Hamas.

Israeli army releases video of Hamas tunnel

Update from January 22nd, 11:00 a.m

.: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have published a video of an alleged Hamas tunnel in the Gaza Strip on X (formerly Twitter).

The tunnel will be 830 m long and will run up to 20 meters deep underground.

Around 20 of the hostages kidnapped from Israel have now been housed in the underground structure.

The IDF post continued: “We cannot and will not rest when we know that innocent civilians are being held in facilities like this.

We will not stop our work until we bring the hostages home.”

Relatives are urging Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to sign a hostage agreement with Hamas

First report from January 22nd:

Tel Aviv/Gaza - Relatives of the more than 130 hostages still held in Gaza want to persuade Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reach an agreement with Hamas.

Relatives set up tents on a sidewalk in front of Netanyahu's home in Jerusalem,

The

Times of Israel reported.

A spokesman was quoted as saying that they would stay until Netanyahu “agreed to an agreement to return the hostages.”

“We love our children more than we hate Hamas,” read a poster posted on the tents, the newspaper reported.

However, Netanyahu categorically rejects Hamas' conditions.

He said on Sunday that he was working “around the clock” to free the hostages.

“But to be clear: I reject in the strongest possible terms the terms of surrender of the Hamas monsters.” Netanyahu had repeatedly emphasized that the war in Gaza would continue “until complete victory, until we have achieved all of our goals.”

This includes Netanyahu dismantling Hamas, returning all remaining hostages and ensuring that the Gaza Strip never poses a threat to Israel again.

Domestically, however, Netanyahu is under immense pressure.

Thousands of people in Israel called for an end to the fighting to free the hostages over the weekend.

The Israeli broadcaster

i24news

quoted the brother of a hostage still held in the Gaza Strip on Monday night as saying: “I want to believe that the government knows that if they don't release the hostages, everything they achieve will be worthless and they don’t come back alive.”

Israel continues fighting against Hamas in Gaza

Meanwhile, the Israeli armed forces continue fighting against Hamas in Gaza.

The

BBC

reported, citing US intelligence, that the Israeli military may have killed around 20 to 30 percent of Hamas terrorists in Gaza so far.

Despite vastly superior firepower, Israel's army still faces considerable resistance.

Accordingly, Hamas still has enough ammunition to attack Israel and its armed forces for months.

In addition, not a single senior Hamas commander has been captured or killed in Gaza so far.
