According to US authorities, Hussein Hatfi Ardkhani has been operating a network spanning the Middle East and East Asia for the past decade - including companies in the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia and Hong Kong - for the purpose of purchasing and transferring materials, sensitive technologies and components made in the US and other countries for the Military Development Organization of the Air Force of the Revolutionary Guards.

The components purchased by Ardkhani were used for the development of the unmanned aerial vehicle program, primarily the Shahad-136 and Shahad-131 attack UAVs that were also transferred to Russia and are used for attacks against civilian and military targets throughout Ukraine. The US State Department announced today a $15 million reward for information which will lead to the thwarting of Ardkhani's network. The move joins the Ministry of Justice's announcement last month about the filing of an indictment against the businessman for crimes related to the procurement of dual-use microelectronic components made in the USA for Iran, at the same time as Ardkhani's inclusion on the Ministry of Finance's sanctions list.
