For the seventh day of farmers' mobilization, the FNSEA, the first agricultural union, must communicate this Wednesday evening a
“forty”
of
“clear demands
”.
While Gabriel Attal must
“quickly”
go “
on the ground
” to try to appease the protest, the French largely support the farmers and their movement.
According to our Odoxa-Backbone Consulting survey for
Le Figaro,
89% of French people support the peasant protest movement.
Rarely, from France rebellious to the National Rally, all supporters of the main political parties approve of the mobilization.
In detail, it is Republican voters, historically close to the agricultural world, who support the farmers' discontent the most (97%).
We then find the activists of the RN (95%), the PS (94%), the environmentalists (88%) and the LFI (87%).
Unsurprisingly, approval remains more timid in the Macron camp.
If 81% of supporters say they support the movement, only 38% of them
“completely”
support the farmers’ actions.
Such a level of support can be explained by the very strong popularity of farmers in the public opinion.
More than 9 out of 10 French people (93%) say they have a good opinion of farmers, including 44% a
“very good opinion”
.
With the exception of nurses, few professions enjoy such popularity in France.
The “
Covid-19 years
” were particularly revealing on the image of those who
“feed us”
: between 2019 and 2024, we recorded an increase of +8 points in people saying they had a good opinion of farmers and above all, a almost doubling on the part of French people saying they have a “
very good opinion
” of them.
Five months before the European elections, the agricultural issue lays the foundations for the campaign.
Especially since the role of Brussels is judged very harshly by the French, more than three quarters of whom (78%) consider its agricultural policy
“rather negative”
for the farmers of France.
Same observation at the national level, where the overwhelming majority of them (83%) believe that Emmanuel Macron does not sufficiently support farmers.
This opinion is the majority in all parties, even among Renaissance supporters (58%).
However, the French do not consider the opposition parties to be better able to help farmers.
Nearly half (49%) consider that they would do
“neither better nor worse”
, almost a third (31%) that they would do
“worse”
and only 19%
“better”
.
On a case-by-case basis, the RN comes out on top somewhat, benefiting from a few more responses
“he would do better”
rather than
“he would do worse”
(29% versus 27%).
