The people of Dorfen can no longer dream of this: a water feature in the city center would also be a nice playground for children on hot summer days.

The fountain field at Unterer Markt has now finally fallen into the water: the city of Dorfen cannot find a fountain builder who wants to build a water feature in the city center.
Dorfen - A water feature like this, with several jets sometimes emitting more and sometimes less water, would not only have been a real eye-catcher, but also a playground for children on hot summer days.
The construction has been put out to tender several times in the past year and a half, explained Jürgen Dietrich, head of the civil engineering department, at the meeting of the construction and transport committee.
“Again no offer has been received, we simply cannot find anyone to carry out the order.”
A well construction company from Rostock looked at the documents, but then turned them down.
They also proactively contacted other cities that already have a water feature and contacted several companies directly.
The fountain builders' books are full, Dietrich speculates: "There may be a lot of fountains being built at the moment." Fountain fields are probably also in vogue in view of climate change and increasingly hot summers.
Time is now running out, says Dietrich.
80 percent of the investment, estimated at 255,000 euros in June 2021, would have come from the special funding program “Revitalize the City Center,” which was launched because of the pandemic.
The subsidy from the Free State of Bavaria expires at the end of the year and it is now impossible to realize the fountain field within the set deadline.
“We can't do that, we can't implement it this year,” regrets the head of the civil engineering department.
It was “well-intentioned and well-done by us,” said Mayor Heinz Grundner afterwards.
But the general conditions would have thwarted the plan.
“It is with a heavy heart that we now have to say goodbye to it.” The planning also showed that there is an archaeological monument at Unterer Markt.
Therefore there might have been difficulties in making the water feature level.
