The city council is sticking to the plans for a bridge over Schwer-Reiter-Straße.
The Free State is now called upon to provide space.
The bridge for cyclists and pedestrians over Schwer-Reiter-Straße should be further examined.
The city council decided this on Wednesday.
The mobility department rejected the bridge because there was not enough space for the original variant.
Bridge over Schwer-Reiter-Straße: The Free State should make the required areas available in the current quarter
At the request of the majority, the city leadership should now lobby the Free State to agree, if possible in the current quarter, to make the areas needed for bridge construction available north of Schwer-Reiter-Straße.
If this fails, the city council wants to switch to an alternative variant for the bridge.
Regardless of the bridge issue, the area should be rebuilt.
A right-turn lane will be eliminated to provide more space for pedestrians and cyclists.
The space in front of the criminal justice center should also be better integrated into the surrounding area.
In addition, there will be more convenience when changing at Leonrodplatz, and the creative quarter will have a wider sidewalk.
At the level of Infanteriestrasse/Ackermannstrasse, a pedestrian ford will also be created over Schwer-Reiter-Strasse.
Conversion of the Schwer-Reiter-Straße area to adapt the traffic point is an important concern
“The district is developing, more living space is being created for even more people,” said Green Party councilor Anna Hanusch.
Adapting the Schwer-Reiter-Straße traffic point is therefore an important concern.
SPD city councilor Nikolaus Gradl: “The elimination of right turns and the wider cycle paths are a significant improvement in terms of traffic safety.”
