The Federal Motor Transport Authority is conducting a hearing against BMW – it concerns possible exhaust manipulation in a diesel SUV.

The Munich car manufacturer could face a recall.

Munich – The emissions scandal is probably not over yet: The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) is conducting a hearing against BMW regarding possible emissions tricks.

A KBA spokesman said on Wednesday that there was a suspicion of an inadmissible shutdown device in the engine control of a diesel model, confirming a corresponding report in the

Bild

newspaper.

BMW: KBA is investigating suspected emissions manipulation

BMW announced that the X3 SUV model in question with a two-liter diesel engine was built from 2010 to 2014.

BMW is checking emissions behavior and is in contact with the authorities.

According to KBA, the suspicion arose as part of market surveillance.

The authority examines vehicles from every manufacturer and can carry out tests in its own laboratory and also analyze the software.

The hearing process for the BMW X3 was initiated last August.

If the KBA then comes to the conclusion that BMW has manipulated, the affected vehicles may be recalled.

When asked by the Reuters news agency, the Munich car manufacturer said that BMW had already provided information about the process in its 2023 half-year report.

The interim statement stated that the BMW Group was “in contact with two responsible registration authorities in Europe to clarify questions about emissions behavior that arose as part of market surveillance on measurement results for a BMW vehicle model built between September 2010 and March 2014 “.

The hearing is still pending.

Therefore, BMW does not comment further on individual questions in this context.
