The Ministry of Communications under the leadership of Shlomo Karai continues the murky relationship with the Israel Post • In an audit by the postmaster at the Ministry of Communications, many deficiencies were found in various branches throughout the country • Among other things, postal items were delayed for 117 working days in Rosh Hayin and hundreds of registered mail items and thousands of postal items were delayed in Petah Tikva Normal for 64 working days

Since the appointment of Member of Knesset Shlomo Karai (Likud) as Minister of Communications, the relationship between the office and the Israel Post has become murky due to the minister's desire to remove the chairman of the board, Michal Vakanin, a removal that the Israel Post defined as "political interference".

Now, the Ministry of Communications has informed the Israel Post Company of its intention to impose a financial sanction of approximately NIS 2 million on the company, for ongoing violations and deficiencies.

Among the localities where deficiencies were found: Rahat, Petah Tikva, Rosh Ha'Ein, Ramat Hasharon and Herzliya, Segev Shalom and Arad.

Among the serious deficiencies found: delays of 9 months in the distribution of mail;

Failure to operate a postal unit for six months and reducing the hours of operation contrary to the provisions of the license.

It should be noted that Karai claimed that Vaknin's removal stems from his desire to optimize the level of service at the post office and the quality of service to the public, which he claims the board of directors did nothing to improve.

As part of the ongoing activity and while maintaining the quality of service to the public, the postal administration at the Ministry of Communications conducted a series of inspection procedures at post offices and mail centers in various regions of the country, and found in some of them deficiencies and violations for which it intends to impose sanctions on the postal company.

Thousands of registered mail items are stuck in branches

The list of deficiencies found in the inspection by the Ministry of Communications includes the delay of hundreds of registered mail items for periods of up to 9 months in the city of Rahat.

This is in contrast to the quality and service standard stipulated in the company's license, which is up to 10 working days for delivery.

The amount of the sanction is NIS 435,190.

In Arad, it was found that the company violated two instructions;

Reducing the operating hours of the postal unit not in accordance with the license instructions, and in addition, the company did not provide the information as required by the license instructions.

The sanction amounts to a total of NIS 391,680.

Hundreds of registered mail items were delayed in Rosh Ha'Ein, for 117 working days.

The amount of the financial sanction is 348,152 NIS. In Petah Tikva - delays in the distribution of hundreds of items of registered mail and thousands of items of regular mail of up to 64 working days. The amount of the sanction is 304,633 NIS.

In Ramat Hasharon and Herzliya - at the mail center, delayed mail was found for up to 57 working days.

The amount of the sanction is NIS 304,633.

In Segev Shalom - a postal unit was not operated in the settlement for a period of about five months, contrary to the deployment instructions in the license, so the residents of the settlement were left without postal services.

The ministry announced its intention to impose a financial sanction of NIS 174,080.

Israel Post has up to 45 days to assert its claims against the intention to impose the financial sanctions.

Director General of the Ministry of Communications (acting), Maimon (Moni) Shamila: "Postal services are essential services.

From inspections carried out before the outbreak of the war, substantial deviations were found that cannot be put on the agenda"
