At today's prices, going to a restaurant can become a luxury.

A pub in Vienna offers a special menu to help.

Vienna – In view of price explosions and high inflation, many people are only too fond of remembering the old days.

When a visit to a restaurant didn't break the bank.

At the time of Deutscher Mark in Germany or Schilling in Austria.

A tavern from Vienna, where the most legendary restaurant in the world is located, is now catapulting its guests back to the time before the euro changeover.

The Schwaigerwirt in the Florisdorf district of Vienna is offering a very special menu for one evening.

The dishes are nothing special: there is soup, beef goulash, bratwurst or roast pork.

Just down-to-earth food.

The map seems out of time.

Things get interesting when you look at the prices.

If you look closely, you will see an “S” in front of the amount.

Wirtshaus in Austria invites guests to “Schillingessen”.

And that's exactly what it's about: The card dates back to the time when payments were still made in Schillings in Austria.

The siblings and operators Alexandra, Katharina and Markus Oberbucher want to revive the (dear) old currency once again.

They announced their “Schillingessen” on the Schwaigerwirt’s Facebook page.

“Eating out at shilling prices?

Yes, it still exists,” they write in their post.

The event, which the inn announced in October, will take place on February 8th at 8 p.m.

This evening you can actually eat unbeatably cheaply: the soup of the day is available for around seven shillings (the equivalent of 0.51 euros), beef goulash for 25 shillings (1.82 euros) or roast pork with dumplings and salad for 35 shillings (2.54 euros). ).

Viennese restaurant offers food at ridiculous prices - you can even pay in shillings

And if you still have coins or notes from the old currency lying around at home, you can use them to pay the bill straight away.

“You can then pay in schillings or we will convert it into euros,” it says on Facebook.

The internet is absolutely thrilled and is celebrating the campaign.

“You're amazing, I think the campaign is great”, “Great thing, I still have a few shillings at home”, and “great idea” are just three positive comments out of a total of more than 200.

However, a scandalous sign from an innkeeper with an Islam joke was not well received at all.

In a later post, the Schwaigerwirt operators announced that all places had been taken.

“The Schilling dinner on February 8th was reserved so quickly today,” said the post, which was published about an hour after the reservation began.

It was significantly more expensive than eating shillings for another restaurant visitor.

In Vienna, an Austrian went out to eat for more than 1,000 euros - and also had to pay a hefty parking fee.

A visit to a restaurant almost became really expensive for an influencer in China, but she was lucky.
