Diversity and variety characterize the new semester program at Vhs Geretsried.

Adult education center employee Beate Ruda picked out the highlights for us.

Geretsried

– “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world”: This quote from South Africa’s national hero Nelson Mandela adorns the first page in the new program booklet of the Geretsried Adult Education Center (Vhs) for the spring and summer semester.

If you leaf through it, you will notice, among other things, exciting lectures on political, social and environmental issues.

Maybe it won't change the whole world, but it's definitely a good start.

Our newspaper asked Beate Ruda, an employee at the adult education center, about the program highlights and news.

244 different events this semester

In total, the VHS offers 244 different events.

There are new events in all sectors,” reports Ruda.

"For example, Japanese, a workshop on healthy eating with weight loss potential 'Intuitive Eating', yoga in the morning or the summer Vhs during the school holidays to get to know yoga, Pilates and aerial yoga."

Lectures on nature and travel

New to the program include lectures on artificial intelligence (AI), Isar birds (in collaboration with the Natura 2000 exhibition in the city museum) and a slide show about Rajasthan and a traditional Indian wedding.

There will also be a guided tour to mark the 100th birthday of the Beuerberg community, as well as one through the main customs office in Munich.

The days are slowly getting longer and brighter again and many people are drawn to going outside.

That's why there are some offers in nature, for example the beaver tours and the bunker tours, which according to Ruda are very popular.

The guided tours by Ulf Schenkel in Bad Tölz are also well booked.

“You shouldn't wait too long to register here.” According to Ruda, the water aerobics courses, Angie Meyer's Pilates courses and all of Lydia Hofmann's courses - including spine, circulatory training and senior fitness - are also booked up quickly.

“The yoga course for men has also been very well booked since it was first offered a year ago.”

Get to know a foreign culture during a Japanese course

When it comes to languages, in addition to English, Spanish, Greek and Russian at a high level are, according to the Vhs employee, “really self-sustaining”.

“This is certainly largely due to the wonderful lecturers who teach these languages and always inspire the participants.”

My news

  • Farmer surprises burglars - and gives the police crucial tips

  • “I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy”: Attack in the old town – perpetrators tie up jeweler and his wife read

  • Jeweler tied up and robbed: perpetrator on the run – police ask for information

  • Advertising board on Königsdorfer Straße: Does it have to go?

    City requested review reading

  • How much can eating out cost?

Some innkeepers are raising prices - and are looking for a middle ground

  • Deininger receives 30,000 virtual farm visitors every week

The language category also includes the course that Ruda finds particularly interesting: the Japanese course.

It is organized in collaboration with the Vhs Wolfratshausen.

Initially designed as a weekend seminar to get to know each other, “it will be expanded,” explains Ruda.

“It’s not just about learning the language, but also about a culture that is so foreign to many.”

Other personal highlights for the Vhs employee include “Mr. Menner’s slide travel lectures again and again,” she lists.

“Because of his excellent expression, his in-depth knowledge of the countries he has traveled to, his wonderful photos and his presentation, which is never boring.”

Listen to free lectures online

Ruda is particularly proud that “we offer the vhs.wissen.live lecture series”.

There are free online live lectures presented by internationally recognized experts, for example about the upcoming election in the USA, problems with China or the development of the African continent.

There are also exciting historical topics such as philosophy in Islam or today's view of the former Yugoslavian leader Tito.

Demand for water aerobics exceeds supply

Ruda would have liked more courses in the area of water sports.

“We could easily offer five more water aerobics courses, but it still wouldn’t be enough,” said the Vhs employee.

“Demand here, much to our regret, exceeds supply.

Here we are simply dependent on the maximum available booking times in the inter-communal indoor swimming pool.” The same applies to the children's swimming courses that the DLRG takes over for the Vhs.

“Here, too, we could organize twice as many courses and it wouldn’t be enough, even though we already offer twelve a year.”

Visitors to the adult education center events can look forward to many new faces: “We are very pleased that we were able to recruit new lecturers for Japanese, English, Zumba, nutrition, yoga, painting and drawing as well as for various individual events,” announces Ruda .
