Humans are creatures of habit – but so are cats.

When moving the litter box, you should proceed carefully.

Cats are naturally very clean - so it's easy to get them used to a litter box.

At the same time, the velvet paws don't appreciate it when something changes in their home: whether it's their meal times or the location of their quiet place.

However, sometimes owners have no choice but to move the litter box.

This move should be planned well so that the transition goes smoothly and there are no unpleasant surprises.

The right location for the litter box

If you are looking for a new place for your four-legged friend's toilet, there are a few things you should consider.

Cats don't like to do their business everywhere.

Like humans, they prefer to keep their feeding area and toilet separate.

So the kitchen next to the bowls is not an ideal place to put the litter box.

It is also a good idea to choose a room in which there is no constant “traffic” – such as the bathroom.

Some cats like to accompany their owners here anyway.

Change the litter box successfully with these tips

Basically, you should move slowly and give your cat time to get used to the new situation.

The best way to proceed is as follows:

  • Install a new toilet in addition to the original one.

This means your cat is not forced to immediately use the toilet somewhere else - and there are no accidents, for example on the new carpet.

  • Move the old toilet a little closer to the new one every day.

  • Does the four-legged friend use the right toilet?

Now you should praise him extensively - ideally with treats.

  • Important: The litter box should always be clean.

Cats are extremely reluctant to use a dirty toilet.

  • If your four-legged friend uses the new toilet regularly, you can remove the old one.

If your cat has problems with the new toilet, you can try to make the environment around it as attractive as possible for it.

For example, by starting an exciting game nearby or placing your favorite mouse there.

On the other hand, carrying the velvet paw repeatedly into the room or putting it in the toilet is rather counterproductive - so she associates the new toilet with coercion instead of with something pleasant.
