Altdorf near Nuremberg - Dramatic emergency near Nuremberg: A 51-year-old truck driver suffered a stroke at the wheel on Monday morning (January 15th) on the A 3 towards Passau near the Altdorf/Burgthann exit.

A 32-year-old from Landshut may have been able to prevent something worse from happening.

“A medical emergency that the first responder involved will remember for a long time,” writes the Feucht traffic police inspection in its statement.

But what had happened?

Shortly after the Antdorf junction, the truck driver fainted.

According to police, the 51-year-old collided twice with the right guard rail, but at least managed to slow down his tractor-trailer.

32-year-old first responder Daniel Fietz was driving behind him and noticed something was wrong with the truck.

He immediately alerted the police.

A medical emergency occurred on Autobahn 3 near the Antdorf junction.

A first aider intervened decisively.

As he drove next to the truck, he noticed that the driver was in poor health.

“The window was three-quarters open, the head was hanging out of the window to the left,” Fietz told the portal

Daniel Fietz then intervened decisively and courageously.

The 32-year-old decided to stop on the hard shoulder a few hundred meters in front of the tractor-trailer, which was now traveling at walking speed.

He ran back across the shoulder and climbed into the rolling tractor-trailer through the passenger door.

Daniel Fietz managed to bring the truck to a stop.

He looked after the 51-year-old until the first rescue workers arrived.

The highway behind him was already closed at this point.

“The police were there live in our ears,” says Fietz.

The emergency services took the 51-year-old to the hospital in Altdorf.

According to the police, members of the volunteer fire department from Altdorf then drove the tractor-trailer to a nearby parking lot in order to park it safely there.
