The former member of the state parliament and ex-mayor of Hildburghausen, Tilo Kummer, wants to switch to the Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW).
“I told my party this today - with pain,” the 55-year-old former left-wing politician told the German Press Agency in Erfurt on Thursday.
The “Free Word” first reported on the personnel.
Erfurt - According to Kummer, the left-wing candidate's poor performance in the district election in the Saale-Orla district almost two weeks ago was also a deciding factor in his decision.
With Ralf Kalich (Left), a “very suitable candidate” started, but only ended up with 6.9 percent.
In contrast, the AfD candidate Uwe Thrum received 45.7 percent of the vote.
On Sunday, a runoff election between him and CDU politician Christian Herrgott will decide who will become the new district administrator.
“I experience every day that there is huge frustration with established parties,” said Kummer.
It is the second prominent switch from the Left to the BSW in Thuringia.
The long-time mayor of Eisenach, Katja Wolf, had previously made it public that she was switching from the Left to the BSW.
Like Wolf, Kummer is also considering running for office in the state election.
In the last legislative period, Kummer was already a member of the Left in the Thuringian parliament - where he was primarily concerned with agricultural issues.
It is important to him that the BSW has a “good offer for rural areas”.
A new parliament will be elected in Thuringia on September 1st.
