Novamont, a company committed to the development of biodegradable and compostable products, has developed the new Mater-Bi, a material for thermolaminated cellulose food trays and recyclable coffee capsules for home composting.
The presentation took place at the 2024 edition of Marca, the organized modern distribution (DMO) trade fair.
In making this known in a press release, Novamont explains that "with the new grades of Mater-Bi it will be possible to create films for later-lamination (liner) and heat-sealing of cellulose food trays with multiple technical performances and a lower environmental impact: waterproofing of the container (without the use of Pfas), heat resistance, gas barrier for packaging in modified atmosphere and prolonged shelf-life, facilitated opening, industrial and domestic compostability, recyclability in the paper supply chain.
Thanks to the collaboration with G.Mondini - a company that produces machines and complete lines for food packaging - Novamont can offer the food industry tailor-made packaging solutions and a package of additional services.
The new grades of Mater-Bi allow the production of various types of compostable capsules, with three transformation technologies and different oxygen barrier levels capable of responding to different needs of the market.
