Rachida Dati having been forced to give up chairing the opposition group “Changer Paris” after being appointed Minister of Culture, the internal battle for her succession is launched.
In a letter addressed to elected officials, Senator Catherine Dumas and district mayor Jean-Pierre Lecoq each announced their candidacy on Thursday.
“The district mayors, parliamentarians and many Paris councilors want me to ensure the continuity and unity of our group
,” argues Dumas, senator from Paris.
“Rachida Dati has trusted me, for three years, as first vice-president, to ensure (...) the coordination of our actions for an offensive opposition against the mayor of Paris.”
Believing that
“the diversity”
of the group and
“the addition of our respective strengths”
place the Parisian right
“at the center”
of the municipal campaign which will begin
“next fall”

“I will not change political family”
For his part, Jean-Pierre Lecoq assumes a candidacy
“in total transparency”
