A youth player from France beat a 15-year-old from Berlin to brain death after a tournament game.
The teenager died from his injuries in the hospital.
The trial surrounding the fatal incident begins on Thursday (9:30 a.m.) in the Frankfurt regional court.
The now 17-year-old defendant is accused of bodily harm resulting in death.
The juvenile criminal law provides for a prison sentence of up to ten years for bodily harm resulting in death.
Due to his young age, the public is excluded from the trial before the 3rd Large Criminal Chamber.
The violence escalated on the Viktoria Preußen sports field.
