The Serbian Novak Djokovic (1) was critical of his game after losing in the Australian Open semifinals against the Italian Jannik Sinner (4), and stated that it is one of the worst Grand Slam matches of his career.
"I was shocked with my level, I wasn't doing many things as I should. It's one of the worst Grand Slam matches of my career. I want to give credit to him for doing everything better than me," commented Djokovic after ending the match. their streak of 33 consecutive games won at Melbourne Park.
"I'm sure I'll see things later that I can be proud of. The streak was going to end one day. At least I gave everything I had and lost against a player who will have a good chance of achieving his first slam. I hope I have the chance to return to play, at least, one more time," added the ten-time champion.
"Throughout the entire tournament I haven't been able to be close to my best level. Maybe the day against (Adrian) Mannarino was better. It's not the way I usually play in Australia," added Djokovic, who has fallen in three of his last four confrontations with Sinner.
"This statistic says a lot. He was serving very well and I did a lot of negative things: return, movement, forehand, backhand... He dominated a lot with his serve and that plays with the mind of your opponent, which in this case was me," he said after finishing the match without any break point in his favor.
"Roland Garros is very far away. Let's see how the favorites play on the clay tour, because the conditions on clay are very different. If Nadal plays he is always the favorite, he is who he is at Roland Garros. Alcaraz and Sinner too, anyone of those at the top in the ranking will have options," he explained when asked about the favorite in the French 'major'.
"I still have hope for the slams and the Olympic Games. It's the start of the season, but I'm not used to this feeling. I've never lost a semi-final or final in Australia," concluded Djokovic, who will continue as number one despite his defeat against the Italian.
