A fatal hit-and-run accident in Arad claimed the life of a young woman in the 1920s.

Police officers of the Arad station of the Negev region in the southern district, a short time ago (Friday), began an investigation into the circumstances of a fatal traffic accident in the city of Arad, involving a private vehicle that hit a pedestrian and fled the scene.

The accident happened last night, on Elazar Ben Yair Street in Arad, around 11:45 p.m., when the report was received by MDA.

As a result of the accident, the pedestrian, in her 20s, was fatally injured and MDA medical officials had to pronounce her dead on the spot.

Upon receiving a report about the incident, the Arad station police forces acted quickly and managed within a few minutes to track down the driver of the offending vehicle, a resident of the city, who was located in her vehicle near the city's industrial area.

The driver, 47 years old, was detained for questioning at the Arad station and based on the evidence that will be collected against her, she will be brought to a hearing today with a request to extend her detention.

MDA paramedic Jordan Mader said: "When we arrived at the scene, we saw a 22-year-old unconscious young woman on the sidewalk with a severe head injury and multiple systemic injuries. We performed medical tests, she had no pulse, no breathing, and no signs of life, and in a short time we had to pronounce her dead."
