This Friday, the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to prevent any genocide in Gaza, after South Africa accused it of committing one against the Palestinians.

Immediacy and efficiency

The country is urged to take "immediate and effective measures to enable the provision of basic services and humanitarian assistance that Palestinians urgently need to address the unfavorable living conditions faced by Palestinians", ruled the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in its highly anticipated verdict.

Separately, the UN's highest court on Friday ordered Israel to allow humanitarian access to Gaza, issuing a historic verdict in a case that has attracted worldwide attention.

Note that while the order is legally binding, in fact, the ICJ has no means of enforcing its decision.

In the early days of the affair, Israel castigated the legal proceedings launched by South Africa.
