Today (Friday) the United States suspended funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, the humanitarian body that works with Palestinians, in light of allegations that 12 UNRWA employees were involved in the terrorist attacks by Hamas in Israel on October 7.

The announcement from the US State Department came after UNRWA announced that it had fired a number of employees in light of new information provided by Israel to the agency detailing the connections of those UNRWA employees to the attacks.
Just yesterday (Thursday), the spokesman for the State Department said, in response to an inquiry from "Israel Today", that the US designates UNRWA a central role in managing life in the Gaza Strip the day after the war.

Today, as mentioned, the decision to suspend the funding came.
"Any UNRWA employee who has been involved in terrorist acts will be held accountable, including through criminal prosecution," said Philip Lazzarini, UNRWA's Commissioner General, in a press release.
The Biden administration, a staunch supporter of UNRWA, said Friday it was taking the allegations seriously.

"The United States is deeply troubled by the allegations that twelve UNRWA employees may have been involved in the October 7 Hamas terrorist attack on Israel," State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a statement.
"The State Department has temporarily suspended further funding for UNRWA while we review these allegations and the steps the UN is taking to address them."
