The Wörthsee local council reacts to a list of signatures from dog lovers and rows back: the animals are still allowed to go into the water in narrow bathing areas.

At the suggestion of a local council, a location should be defused.

Wörthsee – Dogs should still be allowed to be let into the water by their owners at three narrow lake entrances.

Wörthsee's local council voted in favor of this with a clear majority on Wednesday evening - just three months after the committee had actually voted for a change to the statutes that included this permission.

The October vote had ended in an 8-8 stalemate, which legally meant the council had to address the bylaw change.

The community had previously received a list of signatures with 45 names - with the demand to introduce a ban on dogs in a particularly narrow bathing area near Birkenweg.

On Wednesday the community responded to signatures again.

This time around 160 dog lovers signed a list: They called for the dog permit to be retained.

In the end they should get their way.

Only Johanna Benz (WA) and Benedikt Gritschneder (SPD) voted against it.

At one of the entrances to the lake promenade, a sign clearly states that animals are allowed there and are also allowed into the water - in contrast to the larger bathing areas in summer.

The community also writes on the sign: “We ask dog owners and bathers to show mutual consideration.”

Dogs don't have to stay outside - they can go into the water there.

This is indicated by the sign at the lake entrance in the area of the Urban Dettmar House.

Dr.

Harald Lossau (FW) announced right at the beginning of the debate that he would now change his vote and vote for maintaining the regulation.

In doing so, he followed Mayor Christel Muggenthal, who wanted to prevent “people from telling each other off”.

Even Josef Kraus (CSU) did not advocate a dog ban, although he openly said that he was afraid of dogs himself.

Dirk Bödicker (WA) said: “The decision is hitting open doors for me, but I still have a problem with it.

When we make decisions, we should stand by them.” A reference to the completely different vote in October and the local council’s backpedaling on the matter.

Bödicker warned: Only if a group screams loudly does one not have to act immediately.

He asked his colleagues to keep this in mind in the future and, judging by their looks, received understanding.

Johanna Benz, on the other hand, emphasized: “We have to do something.” From her point of view, a sign saying “Dogs on a leash please” would be an option.

“I don’t like simply pushing the problems on.”

People who don't love dogs particularly find one place below the Urban Dettmar House critical.

There is a concrete wall on the bank, the animals jump out of the water - directly in front of a pedestrian bench, where they then shake themselves dry.

Peter Hopmann (WA) suggested defusing the area with stones in the water and turning it into a kind of staircase - “so that the dogs don’t have to make such a big jump”.

Mayor Muggenthal signaled that she would investigate the matter.

Hopmann's suggestion was not recorded in writing in the decision.

“But I’ll follow up,” he told the Starnberger Merkur when asked by telephone.
