The city is proud of the Weilheim sculpture trail, which opened over 100 days ago.
This triggers “feelings of happiness,” it was said at a “thank you reception” in the city theater.
What Weilheim has achieved with this project is now also shown in an impressive book.

- Ten large new works of art that have been in the public space of Weilheim since the beginning of October, connecting the old town and the Au, can be visited and viewed at any time of the day or night: That's not just beautiful, says Ragnhild Thieler, the cultural advisor of the city council.
“The benefit for Weilheim is clear,” she emphasized on Wednesday evening at a reception in the foyer of the city theater: the local citizens would benefit from this “great enrichment” as would guests and tourists.
The sculpture trail was “very well received,” said Thieler, and there was “a lot of positive feedback.”

A good three months after the opening, the initiators and creators of the sculpture trail felt the need to thank everyone involved with a reception: the artists, the sponsors and all the helpers in the foreground and background.
City councilors Marion Lunz-Schmieder and Angelika Flock - they had the idea for the project years ago as part of Weilheim's application for the state horticultural show - presented all supporters with small heart stones as a sign of their heartfelt thanks.
Flock confessed that the fact that their idea became reality gave them real “feelings of happiness”.

Interaction of favorable circumstances
Andrea Kreipe, who took over the project management of the sculpture path on behalf of the Weilheim Art Forum, praised its creation as a combination of favorable circumstances: from the initiative from the city council to the well-functioning project team “without sensitivities and vanities” to the uncomplicated cooperation with the artists.
“A sense of art and the promotion of art have a long tradition in Weilheim,” emphasized Mayor Markus Loth.
And the sculpture trail, he noted, has added a project that is “more accepted and accepted by different people than art in galleries.”

Under the direction of chairman Stefan König, the art forum has now published a richly illustrated, finely texted and lavishly designed book on the sculpture trail (see below).
Each supporter received a freshly printed copy of it at the thank you evening.
There was also a framed photograph of “their work” for the six most generous sponsors, who each covered the cost of an entire sculpture (Sparkasse Anniversary Foundation, Weilheim Location Development Association, Sparda Bank and the companies Xylem, Bremiscker and Schöffmann).

Sculpture path cost a good 100,000 euros
According to Loth, the sculpture trail cost a total of around 100,000 euros.
Local sponsors contributed around 40,000 of these, the city contributed 10,000 euros, and the rest was funding.
The money was well spent, everyone agreed that evening.
And what has been created - the works of which will be gradually replaced by new ones in two to three years - will continue to have an impact.
For example, there will soon be guided tours on the sculpture trail, for kindergarten children as well as for Alzheimer's patients and many other groups.

“A collector’s item”: The new book on the Weilheim Sculpture Trail
The Weilheim Sculpture Trail is now also available as a book: Instead of a usual catalog, the Weilheim Art Forum has created an elaborately designed, 80-page hardcover book about the project.
Title: “The City & the Way.
The art & the artists.”
Each of the ten works created especially for Weilheim (which were selected by an expert jury as part of a competition) is presented in the book on four separate pages - along with the respective artist.
Kunstforum chairman Stefan König, who is responsible for the text and editing, sometimes chose the form of an interview, sometimes he wrote a portrait or a short report.
Numerous pictures, mostly taken by the Weilheim photo artist Susanne Kohler, not only show the works themselves, they often also document their installation.
Tagblatt photographer Ralf Ruder also contributed some large-format images, such as drone shots.
In addition to an introduction by project manager Andrea Kreipe, notes on the creation of the path, a map and all important facts, the book also contains entertaining highlights on the history of Weilheim and the Au.
Finally, an interview with the “organizers from the very beginning” provides interesting insights.
And sponsors explain why they supported the project.
The book, attractively designed by Pischlach graphic artist Richard Maier, was printed in an exclusive edition of 200 copies.
It is available at the tourist information center at Marienplatz for 32 euros.
“It’s expensive,” admits König.
But the book cost even more to produce, despite a lot of voluntary work.
And he is sure: “This is a collector’s item.”
