Three American soldiers were killed and 25 other soldiers were wounded in a drone attack on a base in Jordan, which according to President Joe Biden was carried out by militias supported by Iran. This is the first time since the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas on October 7 that American soldiers have been killed in an attack in the Middle East, which is expected to lead to a sharp response from Washington.
"While we are still gathering the facts about this attack, we know it was carried out by extremist militant groups supported by Iran and operating in Syria and Iraq," Biden said today (Sunday) in a statement. He said that the attack was carried out during the night. "We will continue their commitment to fight terrorism.
And we have no doubt - we will demand accountability from those responsible at the time and in the way we choose," Biden said in his announcement published by the White House.
Biden's statement did not specify how many soldiers were injured, but the CNN network reported that at least 25 soldiers were injured in the attack on "Outpost 22", near the border with Jordan.
