Bad Wiessee - Bad Wiessee's mayor Robert Kühn invited people to the New Year's reception for the last time with thanks for volunteers - for the last time, because from 2025 it will be replaced by a summer reception.
In Bavaria, around 41 percent of citizens volunteer in over 90,000 clubs every year.
The areas of voluntary commitment range from accident and rescue services to sports and cultural clubs to social and youth work.
This diversity shows that the Free State thrives particularly on volunteers who use their free time and energy for the well-being of others and thus actively help shape the community.
The mayor of Bad Wiessee, Robert Kühn, also emphasized this in front of over 50 participants at this year's New Year's reception for the community's voluntary associations and organizations.
“We are a place with a good and strong club culture.
“That’s the only reason why Bad Wiessee is not a soulless place, but a place with heart and a strong community,” said Kühn.
Big thanks to volunteers
The mayor therefore used the evening to express his thanks once again for this commitment.
“It is important to me that what I say is honest and from the heart.
And for this reason, I would like to thank you all very much on behalf of the community of Bad Wiessee for your commitment.”
Mayor Kühn didn't just thank the clubs at the New Year's reception.
Sepp Geiger was honored for his tireless commitment.
In his speech, Kühn summarized the life of the passionate musician.
“Sepp Geiger immediately and immediately set up a good church choir in 1976, went to school and taught children to sing.”
His tireless commitment to organ building, which became a success in 1984, is also worthy of recognition.
From 1980, Sepp Geiger led the Bad Wiessee brass band for ten years and the annual Advent singing he initiated was known and appreciated far beyond the community's borders.
“And finally, of course, working as an organist at baptisms, weddings and funerals.
Regardless of the achievements you made for the Bad Wiessee community during that time, you shaped the musical image of the community,” said Kühn.
Thank you event from 2025 in the summer
At the end of the acceptance speech, the mayor announced another innovation: “Next year there will be no New Year's reception, but we want to try something different and have a summer reception.
I’m really looking forward to that.”
