While the warning strike by aviation security forces at Hamburg Airport is still underway, the Verdi union is calling for further work stoppages.
Hamburg - The Verdi union has called for another warning strike at Hamburg airport on Friday.
This time, ground handling service providers should stop work from 3 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., the union announced on Thursday.
Due to a warning strike by aviation security forces, all departures and around 40 arrivals will be canceled on Thursday.
The service providers Groundstars, Stars and Cats are affected.
According to Verdi, their employees are responsible, among other things, for loading and unloading the aircraft, providing technical equipment, pushing the aircraft back, baggage handling, aircraft de-icing and cleaning the interior of the machines.
With the warning strike, Verdi wants to emphasize the demands of the approximately 900 employees of the companies included in the HAM Ground Handling Group.
These include an inflation compensation bonus of 3,000 euros and an increase in wages of 200 euros and 5.5 percent retroactively to January 1st.
The term of the collective agreement should be twelve months.
According to Verdi, the employers have not submitted an offer in two rounds of negotiations.
The next hearing date is scheduled for February 19th.
On the day of the strike, a rally is planned at the airport on parking level 4 in front of Terminal 2 between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
Almost nothing happened at Hamburg Airport on Thursday.
Due to the nationwide warning strike by aviation security forces, all departures and around 40 arrivals are canceled, as the airport announced on its website this morning.
This corresponds to around a third of all planned arrivals on Thursday.
Many airlines are currently canceling even more arrivals, an airport spokeswoman said this morning.
“The terminals are largely empty today and the situation is quiet.
Almost 30,000 travelers wanted to depart or arrive here today - these plans have now been thwarted by Verdi," said Janet Niemeyer, press spokeswoman at Hamburg Airport, according to the statement.
The strike affects many bystanders, some of whom had been saving for a long time for their vacation trip or who wanted to see their friends and relatives again after a long time.
The check-ins before the evening for the flights planned on Friday are also not possible on Thursday.
