The most romantic month of the year will witness the courtship of
Venus and Mars
among the lights of dawn: the most evocative event of February will be the rapprochement of the two planets, which will culminate on the
22nd
of the month with their conjunction, when we can observe them on the eastern horizon in the South-East in the constellation of Capricorn.
The
Moon
, for its part, already has a busy agenda, as indicated by the Italian Amateur Astronomers' Union: this month we will be able to admire it as it performs in four conjunctions, starting with those with Venus and Mars, on the 7th and 1st respectively. '8, then moving on to
Saturn
on the 11th and finally to
Jupiter
on February 15th.
The protagonist of the evening sky is still Jupiter, certainly the brightest during the first hours of the night, while Saturn, after having shared the limelight with the gas giant for many months, increasingly anticipates its sunset until the conjunction with the Sun expected for on February 28th: we will then have to wait several weeks to see it reappear early in the morning.
The same day will also see the conjunction with the Sun of Mercury, which will therefore be almost impossible to spot during this month: also in this case, its reappearance in the evening skies will only take place next month.
The sky is still dominated by the large winter constellations: the protagonist in the southern direction is always Orion.
Higher up we find the constellations of Taurus with the red Aldebaran, the constellation of Auriga with the bright star Capella, Gemini with the main stars Castor and Pollux.
In the constellation of Canis Major, Sirius shines, the brightest star in the sky, and even higher up, in Canis Minor, Procyon shines.
Towards the West, in the early evening hours, there is still time to see the autumn constellations of Andromeda, Triangle, Pisces and Aries set.
