The Zustorf fire station is still on schedule - even if, as the local newspaper found out at the construction site, it has not yet been possible to completely assemble the final roof.

It hasn't been warm enough for long enough to safely process the material.

There was also a nice message for the fire department from the local council on Tuesday evening: There will soon be a new fire engine.

Zustorf – Master carpenter Wolfgang Leitsch became more specific during his visit to the construction site: “There is a bituminous welding membrane on top as a vapor barrier.

The problem we have at the moment is that it has to be permanently above five degrees, otherwise the cracks will appear.” But the temporary roof sealing allows the interior work to move forward.

Leitsch estimates that the fire department will be able to move in around the middle of the year.

The interior walls are currently being assembled, the electrical installation is in progress in the same way as the installation of the heating system.

What the tool shed will look like is already visible from the outside: The vehicle hall has outer walls made of sandwich elements with a high insulation value.

The facade is already finished.

The part that will contain all the fire brigade facilities, a publicly usable space and public sanitary facilities, however, has a wooden facade made of gray-colored boards.

These behave differently than those that are natural and then weather differently depending on how exposed they are to the weather.

In this way, the appearance of the building does not change nearly as much over the years as those that have a facade made of untreated lark wood boards.

As a Leitsch employee explained on site, this has a whole range of advantages.

The facade design is also consciously based on the surrounding buildings, which largely consist of buildings with vertically positioned facade boarding.

The aim is for the new building to fit into the surrounding area as well as possible.

A few weeks after the topping-out ceremony, the people of Zustorf can already see exactly what their tool shed will look like.

In the vehicle hall, the insulation material is still stacked floor-high, but Mayor Josef Straßer's prediction – “You will see something very quickly” – has come true.

There is more good news for the Zustorf fire department: a medium-sized fire engine (MLF) is being purchased for them for around 360,000 euros.

At the council meeting, Straßer announced the decisions from the non-public meeting, including the awards for the individual parts of the vehicle such as the chassis, body and equipment.

So the order is correct: first the tool shed, then the new vehicle.

The mayor has not yet given any information about when exactly it will be delivered.

As reported, there are always problems with delivery times.

The old vehicle will remain in service for a while and will not be given away so quickly.

A decision has already been made on this too.
