Le Figaro Marseille
The city of Marseille has opened an internal investigation into suspicions of corruption targeting officials responsible for allocating locations at the Plaine market, one of the main markets in France's second city, Le
Figaro
learned from the advisor municipal delegate for public space in Marseille, confirming information from Marsactu.
The alert was given to the elected official by the unions.
“People who are not authorized to be on the Plaine market are positioned there,”
laments Roland Cazzola.
They would be in exchange for money that goes beyond the city's radar.
According to our colleagues from Marsactu, officials in charge of placement in the markets ask for bribes of up to 50 euros, where the city legally charges a little more than fifteen euros for an average-sized stand.
No complaint filed
“I will not give up on the question of corruption linked to installation in the markets,”
Roland Cazzola
warns Le
Figaro
.
I do not want to cast shame on the city officials or the market sellers.
There was no complaint filed.
It should be because it is serious.
For our part, an investigation is underway.
And if it is proven, we will refer the matter to the general inspectorate of services, or even to the courts under article 40.”
