Silvia Fredes, one of the members of Madres del Dolor, remembers her daughter Martina. THE EDITOR'S COMMENT. The mission to raise awareness.

It seems like it was yesterday when you left the house with your hair done, your smile so beautiful and your anticipation for the movie you wanted to see with your friends, I even remember the name of it, “The Child”, horror genre, like we both liked it.

And I remember every detail of that day and I repeat it to myself constantly because

I am so afraid of forgetting

.

We were left with your 16 years tattooed in fire, the most beautiful 16 years but so short.

That February 14, that day that should have been one of joy and anecdotes upon seeing each other again, it's your turn to leave.

It became our break in life,

that call that no one wants to hear,

that call that tells us that Damián Villanueva had ended your life, and ours, he had passed the red light at high speed and collided with your body and There was your last breath.

What must you have thought in that second that separated you from this plane?

It hurts me to imagine you lying there on the asphalt without us, without holding your hand, without stroking your hair, like we did every night when you went to sleep, there will be no more I love you, there will be no more WhatsApp messages.

Your voice stayed with me on the phone and I listen to it every so often because I really

don't want to forget your voice, your laugh, your life.

Martina Miranda.

We haven't seen you in 8 years, and I swear it seems like it was yesterday, I can't imagine you now, sometimes I see kids on the bus in their uniforms and I stop in time, my mind can't move forward.

Our life continued, although we didn't want it, these 8 years continued and so did we, I don't know if it's right or not

but it's what we had to do.

Things here have not changed much, people continue driving like Damián Villanueva, at high speed, drunk and without being aware of what they cause:

25 deaths per day in road accidents and not even the State cares about those losses, those families that were destroyed, those yellow stars that cover more and more of the city every day.

We turn on the TV and continue watching more Martinas, more tricked lives, we care so little about our own lives and those of others.

During this time we surround ourselves with families like us, and we have the same look. When it is said that the soul is reflected in the brightness of our eyes, it is true because they no longer shine as before.

We try to raise awareness in every message we give.

In each talk from the pain of loss to the love that we must give because you left us so much, so much love that it would be selfish not to share it.

Silvia Fredes, member of the Mothers of Pain Civil Association.

You are missed so much Martu, I hope at some point it will be as they say and we will meet again,

this cannot have been all, it would not be fair, although many times life is not fair.

And we know it.

We learned it the hard way, when your body remained motionless on the asphalt, when Dad wiped a drop of blood from your cheek, when we got home and you never crossed that door again, that hours before you had crossed it without knowing what it would be like. the last time.

We turned 8 years old, half of the life you gave us.

We love you beyond Earth and Heaven.

Another 14, another year that reminds us of your absence and compresses our chest more.

THE EDITOR'S COMMENT

By César Dossi

The mission to raise awareness

Martina was an only child, she was 16 years old, and on February 14, 2016 she went out with her boyfriend and friends.

Upon returning to his house, at the intersection of Scalabrini Ortiz and Vera, in the Villa Crespo neighborhood, Damián Villanueva crossed the red light at high speed, causing his death on the spot and escaping the wrong way down Corrientes Avenue.

The Police, through City surveillance cameras, managed to find the gray Corsa with tinted windows that witnesses described.

But two days after the crime, the 22-year-old driver who killed Martina and escaped from her took his own life at her parents' house.

Silvia remembers her daughter every year through these Sunday pages as an

active tribute

, and also as a reminder so that we all

become aware when driving

on the streets and routes of the country.

But the day to day that she carries in her gut is the true battle that she maintains with that

underlying pain,

which she transforms every morning into action to try to ensure that the same thing does not happen to others.

That is why on the Mothers of Pain website,

containment becomes a caress for the soul

.

On December 10, 2004, this Civil Association was born and since then it has celebrated the approval of several laws, including the Road Law, the National Registry of Genetic Data linked to Crimes against Sexual Integrity, the Illegal Racing Law, the Law of Victims, Alcohol Law 0;

and has promoted bills, including the Lucio Law, the Zero Driving Alcohol Law and the Sign Language Law.

Since June 2020, Argentina has had an assistance service for road accidents that is today a model in the world:

Line 149 option 2

, an assistance network of the National Road Safety Agency (ANSV) for traffic victims and their families.

At the end of 2023, and with a growth of 470%, the use of 149 had quintupled.

They already receive almost 900 calls per month.
