Former US senator Joseph Lieberman died at the age of 82 this Wednesday, March 27, announced our colleagues from the
New York Times

Washington Post
. He died from medical complications following a fall, his family said in a statement.
Joseph Lieberman, who throughout his career supported abortion rights, the defense of homosexuals and gun control, was a senator in the state of Connecticut between 1989 and 2013, before filing his candidacy for the position as vice president of the United States in 2000, appearing on Al Gore's ballot.
“Centrist” Democrat
In 2003, then considered a
“centrist”
Democrat , he became a fervent supporter of the war in Iraq led by President George W. Bush, which caused his break with the Democratic Party. Despite a clear lack of support, he ran for president in 2004, before dropping out following disappointing results in New Hampshire and Delaware.
Becoming an independent senator in 2006, he continued his political career until 2013, then offered himself the post of director of the FBI in 2017. Received by Donald Trump, he was ultimately not chosen.
