In view of the American presidential elections in November and other political events of global interest, social services are introducing measures to ensure balance and transparency for what users see.
After the February announcement, Meta introduced the limit on suggested political content for all Instagram and Threads subscribers.
The new feature is applied automatically and is being implemented globally.
The first to experiment with it were the Americans, who released the screen with the new menu online.
A new entry therefore appeared in the profile settings, in the path of suggested posts, relating to political content.
Those who do not want this limit can remove the check and continue to receive suggestions on these topics from accounts that are not followed.
The change on Instagram will also affect Threads, which relies on the pre-existing network of the first social network.
Meta defines political content as "a post that mentions governments, elections, or social topics that affect a group of people or society in general."
The company announced the feature in February, explaining its desire to make "Instagram and Threads an enjoyable experience for everyone. If you decide to follow accounts that post political content, we don't want to come between you and their posts, but we also don't want to proactively recommend content politicians from accounts you don't follow."
Once this option is activated, the visibility of political content in the Explore, Reels, feed recommendations and suggested users sections will be reduced.
A change that does not apply to photos and videos of people you already follow.
