After announcing the launch of Sora later this year, OpenAI is testing the waters of generative AI for videos with Hollywood directors.
According to an indiscretion provided by Bloomberg, the developer of the famous chatbot ChatGpt has tested the artificial intelligence that creates quality videos starting from textual indications to a "handful of more or less well-known Hollywood directors".
Also present during the introductory demonstration were OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and executive Brad Lightcap.
And not only that, OpenAI asked some artists to try Sora.
They are Walter Woodman, Sidney Leeder, Patrick Cederberg, all members of the shy kids collective, as well as Nik Kleverov, Paul Trillo, August Kamp, Josephine Miller, Don Allen Stevenson III and Alex Reben.
The first three produced a one minute and twenty second film, published on YouTube and entitled "Air Head".
In mid-March, during an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Mira Murati, Chief Technology Officer of OpenAI, confirmed the company's desire to make the platform available within a few months, certainly within the year.
"OpenAI has a strategy of collaborating with industry through a phased implementation process - a company spokesperson explained to Bloomberg - implementing AI advances in phases, so as to ensure safe adoption and give people a idea of what's on the horizon. We look forward to having an ongoing dialogue with artists and creatives."
Sora was unveiled in February, and while there hasn't been a public release yet, the announcement has raised concerns about the data used to train the model and how this could impact the film industry.
It is no coincidence that the Writers Guild of America West union will soon vote on an agreement aimed at preventing the use of artificial intelligence content as a starting tool for writing screenplays and scripts.
