Meanwhile, the Saxony police reported “several fatally injured people” on Twitter.

In response to a dpa request, the police have now confirmed the number of deaths to five people.
There is currently no concrete information about the exact number of injuries.
The Leipziger Volkszeitung (LVZ) reports at least a dozen, with reference to the police.
In addition, the clinics in the Leipzig area are currently preparing for “up to 50 injured and ten seriously injured,” the newspaper continued.

Fatal A9 accident near Leipzig: How did the incident happen?
The coach had an accident in the morning on the A9 between the Wiedemar junction and the Schkeuditzer Kreuz.
The vehicle left the road for an unknown reason and fell onto its side, reports the German Press Agency (dpa).
The LVZ emphasizes that it is currently unclear whether other cars were involved.
The long-distance bus was on the way from Berlin to Zurich in the morning.
According to Flixbus, there were 53 passengers and two drivers on board.
“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this accident and their families,” said a company spokesman on Wednesday in response to a dpa request.

Several rescue helicopters and numerous ambulances are in use.
The A9 is closed in both directions.
Motorists were asked to keep an emergency lane clear.
