Shortly before Easter, things got contemplative on RTL thanks to “Die Passion”, while ZDF promised a lot of excitement with “Aktenzeichen XY”. But what did TV viewers want?

Kassel/Munich – As is well known, taste can be debated – a wisdom that probably also applies to RTL's TV musical “The Passion”. For the second time, the Cologne broadcaster staged a modern version of the Easter story - this time in downtown Kassel. After just a few minutes, it caused all sorts of ridicule online, while other viewers reacted enthusiastically. On Wednesday evening (March 27th) we also had to compete with a real cult show: “File number XY ... unsolved” on ZDF.

“Aktenzeichen XY” anniversary has to compete with the biblical RTL production “The Passion”.

The television series, which has been broadcasting since 1967 and reconstructs real crimes, celebrated its incredible 600th episode parallel to the “The Passion” production. On the occasion of this anniversary, presenter Rudi Cerne (65) recently revealed which “file number XY” case still affects him to this day. But the sports journalist and former figure skater and his team also have a lot to celebrate apart from this milestone.

Because no primetime program, i.e. formats that start at prime time at 8:15 p.m., could hold a candle to “Aktenzeichen XY” on Wednesday – not even “Die Passion”. According to

dwdl.de,

just 2.23 million total viewers (market share of 9.7 percent) saw the RTL production with Ben Blümel (42) as Jesus. More than twice as many television viewers tuned in to ZDF instead: with 5.50 million total viewers (market share of 22.5 percent), the crime series even won the day.

“Aktenzeichen XY” also outperforms “Die Passion” among the target audience

“Aktenzeichen XY” was also able to assert itself among the young audience, the advertising-relevant target group of 14 to 49 year olds: with around 810,000 viewers (market share of 16.2 percent), there was no getting past Rudi in this segment of the TV audience Cerne and the crimes he presents. Particularly bitter: RTL had to compete with “Die Passion” (approx. 590,000 target group viewers; market share of 12.4 percent) among the primetime formats, its main competitor ProSieben and “TV total” (approx. 750,000 target group viewers; market share of 14.7 percent).

Particularly spicy: “TV total” presenter Sebastian Pufpaff (47) mocked “The Passion” in his comedy show. He moderated as Jesus and also gave his show a biblical motto - albeit with a clear wink.
