Residents are resisting the planned location for a supermarket in Hilgertshausen. At the meeting they criticized the flood problem, which would be exacerbated by the construction project.
Hilgertshausen – The local council has cleared the way for an Edeka market in the west of Hilgertshausen under building law. However, the committee was surprised by a local protest at the meeting.
The councilors unanimously approved both the change to the land use plan and a resolution to draw up the necessary development plan. While Mayor Markus Hertlein and the local councilors were of the opinion that this was doing something good for the citizens, they were confronted during the meeting with major concerns about flooding from the Ilm at the planned supermarket location.

This was ensured by resident Werner Breitsameter, who was given the right to speak. Breitsameter spoke of “madness” of building on such a flood plain near the Ilm. Because of the bottleneck at the Ilm Bridge, in Breitsameter's words, "murderous flooding would be expected if the supermarket were to be built here."

He accused the council members of not having given any thought to the condition of the soil. As a neighbor of the property, he knows that the groundwater comes from a depth of 1.50 meters in the proposed area. “It would have to be built on six-meter pillars,” emphasized Breitsameter, especially since heavy rain is to be expected more frequently in the future due to climate change. From an ecological point of view, it also makes no sense to build a supermarket over a wet area here. The neighbors Luksch, Steger and Einertshofer would also see a significant danger to their belongings, explained Breitsameter.
“I don’t want to turn our meeting into a citizens’ meeting,” said Mayor Markus Hertlein Breitsameter – also in view of the large number of residents in the audience.
Hertlein explained that we should first wait for the process, where specialist authorities will clarify whether a supermarket can be built there or not.
