Edison Next, a company that accompanies industrial customers and public administrations in the process of decarbonization and ecological transition, has signed an agreement, lasting twelve months, with Bekaert, a company that operates in the transformation of steel wire and coating technologies.

The agreement provides for the installation of a photovoltaic system with a total power of 6.1 MW at the Bekaert plant in Macchiareddu (Cagliari) capable of satisfying more than 20% of its current energy demand. Edison Next will finance, develop and manage the installation of the photovoltaic system at the Bekaert Sardinia plant, in the Macchiareddu-Grogastu area, which will be completed and will enter into operation in 2025. The plant, which will cover an area of approximately 23,000 square metres, will have an annual electricity production of over 11.2 GWh, equivalent to the annual consumption of over 4,000 families, and will allow us to avoid the emission into the atmosphere of approximately 3,000 tonnes of Co2 annually.

"We are proud to be able to contribute to the sustainability objectives of Bekaert, one of the Italian, European and global leaders in the steel sector", says Marco Steardo, industry director of Edison Next.

"This latest generation solar energy project developed at the Bekaert site in Sardinia involves the use of trackers that follow the path of the sun in order to optimize the production of renewable energy", highlights Michael Hamilton of Bekaert.
