The Government assures that the Télam
news agency
currently has about
3,000 employees
. The
official plan
is
to leave only 200
: 100 for the informative role and 100 for the advertising area, which are currently already performed there. The pruning that the Casa Rosada imagines is of that magnitude. And
progress would be imminent
. There is talk of "days" or even "hours" to activate the scrapping.
At the beginning of the month, after President Javier Milei announced its closure during a speech in the Legislative Assembly, the agency stopped working, its buildings were fenced off and its workers "dismissed." A kind of paid leave.
This job figure was renewed a couple of times, while
a voluntary retirement was offered
which, this newspaper knows,
was not successful
. "Nobody grabbed it because they wanted to see how the hand came," an official source summarized to this newspaper.
The hand, according to that same official, would come like this: "These days we will move forward with the layoffs directly. The idea is to leave 100 people for the news part and 100 for the advertising agency. Today you have no other department that can fulfill this role. And beyond the fact that the institutional guidelines with the media were cut, for example you need to advertise Banco Nación or some health campaign."
The
debate on the adjustment in public employment
was about to boil this Wednesday in Casa Rosada. There, in some meetings, an attempt was made to unify the speech after the President spoke about the immediate cancellation of 70,000 contracts and his officials corrected him that there would be about 15,000.
How to reach 70,000
One of the explanations is that
the 70,000 that Milei spoke of will be met, but rather reaching the end of the mandate
. At the moment, the order that was lowered and has a certain level of compliance is that each ministry reduces its number of employees/contracts by between 15% and 20%.
In some cases, pruning could (or should) be greater. For example, in Economy, led by Luis Caputo, where several ministries were unified and there is overlap, for example, of legal or administrative areas. Today,
under the orbit of the former Macrista official there would be about 15,000 employees
.
The structure that Sandra Pettovello
inherited
in Human Capital is also extensive, where several very important ministries were also merged. She is
another of the officials under the scrutiny of Nicolás Posse
, the chief of staff, who monitors the cuts.
An organization where there has already been a significant pruning, according to government data and with a rebound in the media, is the
ANSeS
. There is talk of a reduction
of 3,000 employees
, with office closures throughout the country (known as UDAI -Comprehensive Care Units-). The pension organization was "the" mega fund with which La Cámpora made politics and placed its own people (among other things).
State companies and the dilemma with the railways
One of the
keys to the adjustment
to reach the 70,000 fewer jobs that Milei promised, they explain in the Government, is in the
State companies
. As an emblematic example, "the Railways are mentioned, which include about five companies."
"Today you have 36,000 employees there. And you have to get at least 12,000. You could cut 15,000 and it would still work. But no one dared in all these years," explained an official who, while doing the math, opened his eyes as a warning: " "Can you imagine what a mess that could be? There you have several guilds and heavy ones."
The trains, with conflict in sight, fell under the orbit of the Ministry of Transportation, which depends on the Ministry of Economy. An official source points out a detail:
"The most orderly companies were taken by Posse to Headquarters and the most confused ones were left to other ministries
. "
