Traffic detectives in Jerusalem this morning (Thursday) stopped a bus on Route No. 1 driven by a 67-year-old man for the 14th time without a driver's license. The driver's license of the perpetrator, a resident of East Jerusalem, was revoked for several years, and he was sentenced to suspended prison terms for similar offenses.

The detectives of the unit spotted the driver as he was driving towards Ma'ale Adumim. They stopped the bus on the side of the road, then discovered that the driver, a resident of Ras al-Amad, has been disqualified from driving by the traffic court since May 2019 for a period of ten years. The police stated that all the punishments imposed on him over the years did not prevent him from driving again, endangering the passengers on the road. He was transferred to the Jerusalem traffic unit for questioning. Later he will be brought before the Magistrate's Court to extend his detention. The investigation against him continues, and the police estimate that an indictment will be filed against him.

"does not return to the beneficiary"

Major Eli Matlov, commander of the central traffic unit in the Jerusalem district, said: "This is a driver who, despite his age, has been caught driving without a driver's license time after time, and in contrast to the very long disqualification imposed by the traffic police in recent years, after serving an actual prison sentence In this matter. All of this did not bring the driver back to the beneficiary and he continues to drive without a license, a disqualification while putting the public of road users at real risk. In this case, there is no doubt that the driver's place is behind bars for a long period of time, with the aim of keeping him off the road."
