The
Boca Juniors stadium
would be on the way to a great transformation, still without a definitive name but with an ambitious plan that - according to journalist Pablo Ladaga on his YouTube channel - seems to have been supported by
Juan Román Riquelme
, the president of the club. . The club has been working on this plan since 2020 and in the coming days there could be an official announcement.
The main idea
is to expand the Bombonera towards the parking area (they would gain 8 meters)
, adding two levels above the boxes, closing the elbows and roofing the stadium. With these modifications, the maximum capacity would increase to
91,452 spectators
, exceeding the almost 85,000 seats of River Plate's Monumental stadium.
According to Ladaga,
Riquelme has already approved the project
. Currently, the Alberto J. Armando stadium has more than 59,000 seats, but with the elimination of some seats and the modifications during the management of Jorge Amor Ameal, now Román's vice president, more than
30,000 new seats
are expected with the remodeling.
The design of the new Bombonera, as shown by journalist Pablo Ladaga.
The plan includes a significant expansion in all seating areas: from the 30,704 seats in the popular it would increase to 50,000, from the 20,766 seats it would reach 34,200, and the boxes would increase from 2,166 to 7,252. Three possible sources of financing for the project were mentioned: a major sponsor, the sale of new boxes and club funds.
“The architectural firm is totally convinced that this can be carried out
,” added Ladaga. If carried out during Riquelme's presidency, Boca's stadium would be the largest in South America, surpassing River's. However, before starting construction, a feasibility phase will be carried out to evaluate the technical and structural feasibility of the project.
Although there have been no official comments on this plan, Riquelme has expressed interest in increasing the capacity of the stadium while maintaining harmony with the neighbors.
“The first thing we have to do is do it on the same land we have, to see if more people come in without disturbing anyone and invite all the neighbors to come to the field and continue living next to the Bombonera. “It is the first thing we are going to do, it is under study
,” Román had said.
It is worth clarifying that this project does not contemplate the purchase of the two neighboring blocks or the homes facing the street on Del Valle Iberlucea street.
