A man was taken into police custody on Wednesday March 27 after having slit the throat of his neighbor in Mandeure (Doubs),

Le Figaro

learned this Friday from the Montbéliard public prosecutor's office, confirming information from

France Bleu Montbéliard.

The accused, aged 32, could no

longer “bear the incessant noise”

of his 54-year-old neighbor, explains Paul-Edouard Lallois, the prosecutor of the Montbéliard judicial court, adding that he would require the placement in pre-trial detention of the author of the facts.

An altercation a few days before

The thirty-year-old had lived in this apartment in Mandeure for almost ten years with his mother, who suffers from multiple sclerosis. He spent his days taking care of the latter and, the rest of the time “playing video games”, indicates Paul-Edouard Lallois.

When the neighbor arrives in the building in the summer of 2023, things become complicated. The suspect describes noise pollution, a man speaking loudly, slamming doors, etc. He also reports that the individual often receives other people.

“It regularly squatted underneath

,” the suspect reported to investigators.

A few days before the tragedy, the victim had filed a complaint, following an altercation on her landing during which the suspect punched her.

“I cut his throat”

On the morning of the events, the thirty-year-old had received in his mailbox a summons from the gendarmes to hear him about the circumstances of his action, the prosecution further details. For him,

“it’s one straw too many”

, explains the Montbéliard prosecutor.

All day long, the suspect ruminates, explains the prosecution. Around 11 p.m., the man went down to his neighbor's house, a kitchen knife in his hand. When the latter opens the door, the suspect

“charges him like a battering ram”

, in his own words, when he explains himself later to the gendarmes.

The suspect tries to stab him first, which the neighbor dodges. The young man punches him in the face. The victim immediately falls to the ground and the suspect hits him with knives.

“I slit his throat

,” he reported to investigators while in police custody.

Suicide attempt

A neighbor, alerted by the screams, rushed to the victim's apartment. But the suspect has already fled towards the surrounding woods. He then tries to open the veins with his knife, without success. The young man finally heads to the top of a cliff, most certainly to commit suicide, Paul-Edouard Lallois further specifies, but the gendarmes manage to arrest him before he commits the act.

When the soldiers arrived at the victim's apartment, they discovered a man

“soaked in blood”

. The fifty-year-old has a very significant wound in his throat, as well as

“marks on his face which seem to correspond to the punches”

, underlines the prosecution.

The man is described as a

“very cold”

individual who even seems

“relieved”

to have killed the victim.

“At least he won’t bother anyone anymore

,” he reportedly told investigators.

Psychological and psychiatric assessments will be ordered by the investigating judge, reports Paul-Edouard Lallois.
